Who is Svante Gullichsen?
I’m a Helsinki-based photographer working at the intersection of art and commercial storytelling.
With a background in fine art photography and a long history in travel and editorial work, I’ve built a style that combines visual elegance with a relaxed, atmospheric feel. My images often carry a sense of place — rooted in nature, culture, and mood — while staying aligned with the needs of modern brands.
In addition to exhibiting internationally (London, Paris, Amsterdam) and being featured in publications The Guardian and Aesthetica magazine. I’ve worked with a wide range of commercial clients from lifestyle brands, travel magazines and hospitality. I’m used to working independently or with teams, both in Finland and abroad.
Whether it’s a campaign, a destination story or a branded editorial, I aim to create images that feel both genuine and refined.

Client: Visit Finland
I created a series of brand images for the City of Helsinki during a four-day Visit Finland and Helsinki Partners program. I worked with a group of international guests and focused on showing the kinds of highlight moments that reflect what Helsinki life can feel like at its best.
Alongside documenting real interactions, I guided the participants when needed to shape the scenes and ensure the images supported the city’s visual identity. I paid attention to how people moved and connected with their surroundings so the photos would feel genuine but still have a more marketable side.
The images are now in wide use by both Helsinki and Visit Finland. They present the city through real people and moments that feel true, warm and human.

Travel stories
For me, travel photography is about capturing the atmosphere and feeling of a place, rather than just documenting its appearance. I seek out quiet moments, subtle details, and the interplay between light and landscape that convey a sense of presence and emotion.
My work often features natural environments, from the serene archipelagos of Finland to the dramatic landscapes of Norway. I aim to create images that are both visually striking and emotionally resonant, blending artistic sensibility with a documentary approach.
Commercial case-examples
Case Helsinki Exposed
Client: City of Helsinki
I planned and executed a photo series for the Helsinki Exposed website in collaboration with Boun in the spring of 2024.
The client wanted paparazzi-style images capturing everyday moments in the lives of Helsinki residents—as if the photographer had just “accidentally stumbled upon” the scenes.
My responsibilities included the photography and editing, but I also handled casting, location scouting, booking a stylist, and scheduling.
The client was very happy with the final images, and I received special praise for the playful and inventive choice of locations.
Lumo homes brand images
Client: Lumo homes / Kojamo
I planned and executed a brand photoshoot for Lumo homes together with my team in Helsinki. I scouted locations and selected models in collaboration with our producer. The goal was to create stylish, fresh, and timeless brand images that would support Lumo's visual identity for years to come. The images were designed to reflect Lumo's values of offering delightful surroundings for both work and leisure.
Case Sokos Hotel Tripla
Client: Sokos Hotels
I planned and photographed a brand image series for Sokos Hotel Tripla in Pasila.
The goal was to create warm, approachable images that reflect the hotel’s atmosphere and its connection to urban life with a natural, lifestyle-oriented feel rather than traditional hotel imagery.
The collaboration went smoothly, and the client especially appreciated how the images brought out a relaxed, genuine tone while still supporting their visual brand identity.
Case Various Travel Magazines
When I write about travel, I start from my own experience. What I noticed, what felt different, what stayed with me. I don’t try to cover everything, just what felt meaningful or said something about the place.
I’ve written and photographed travel stories for several magazines, combining text and images in a way that feels natural and consistent. The goal is not to create a guide, but to give a clear sense of the destination through everyday details and lived moments.
The tone is straightforward and personal. I let the photos support the story without trying to explain everything.
